Some weeks later after the establishment of an experimental factory which makes synthetic diesel e-diesel fuel from carbon dioxide and water, representatives of the Audi company announced their next achievement in the production of synthetic fuel. But this time the pure gasoline having a phytogenesis, which received the name e-benzin and which was received with assistance of specialists from the French company Global Bioenergies, became achievement.
At the end of 2014, specialists from the Global Bioenergies company constructed and started special fermentative installation in which any sacchariferous biomass is recycled into gaseous isobutane. This isobutane is a widespread type of raw materials in chemical industry, its further processing allows receiving synthetic fuel, a set of different types of plastic and many other things from it
Having collected and having cleared a necessary amount of gaseous isobutane, specialists of the Global Bioenergies company, having increased pressure, transferred it to a liquid state and transported capacity with the liquefied gas to Germany. There, by means of series of chemical transformations, gaseous isobutane was recycled into the purest gasoline with octane number 100. “For us it is a historical moment” – Mark Delkur (Marc Delcourt), the president of the Global Bioenergies company tells, – “It is the first time in history when we received full-fledged pure gasoline from a phytogenesis source”.
Now the isooctane received by means of other methods is used as an additive to some types of fuel. But specialists of the Audi company created a new formula of e-benzin gasoline on the basis of an isooctane which burns down very purely because of the lack of benzene and sulfur in it. Besides, high octane number of synthetic gasoline allows increasing an extent of compression that will increase even more the overall performance of internal combustion engines.
Now Audi researchers are engaged in definition of exact composition of the received fuel and the tests in which this fuel will burn down in chambers of ordinary engines will begin. And after that new fuel will be be put on road trials. And, eventually, everything will come to the fact that serially released cars will be able to use e-benzin as a main type of fuel.
“We consider that we managed to bring “green” elements in the area which has desperately needed similar “gardening”” – Ric Bokret (Rick Bockrath), the vice-president of the Global Bioenergies company, – “Tells and, eventually, we will pass from the economics completely dependent on oil, to more viable and ecological economics which will scoop resources from renewable sources everywhere where possible”.
In the near future, specialists of the Global Bioenergies and Audi companies are going to improve the technologies developed by them in order to create synthetic gasoline that lo longer requires biomass. In these new technologies gasoline will be made only from water, carbon dioxide, hydrogen and a sunlight, and it is the main idea of the concept of power-to-liquid (PtL) which is now actively developed and moves ahead the Audi management.
And shortly, within the following stage of the program, the Audi company will construct experimental factory in Germany, similar to the factory which is now in France. However, the power of a new factory will exceed existing power in 10 times, it will be capable to develop 100 tons of isobutane of high purity and an isooctane in a year.
