Recently all of us to a thicket and more often hear about memristors, about electronic devices of the fourth basic type which were initially positioned as a cell of a new type of non-volatile memory. But, the subsequent researches allowed to reveal all potential of memristors which can be considered as electronic analogs of neurons now and on the basis of which it is possible to create chips, processing and storage of information in which imitates work of a brain of the person on the basis of which it will be possible to realize the real artificial intelligence.
Recently researchers from Royal institute of technology in Melbourne (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, RMIT), Australia, continuing work begun by them earlier, developed a new type of memristors on the basis of which thin-film devices of superfast analog memory which cells can accept very large amount of values were created. And these memristors which work very effectively imitates work of neurons, will allow to create the chips capable at the same time to process and keep numerous independent data flows as it does a brain of the person.
New memristors are made of amorphous option of titanate of strontium into which structure defects of a certain sort are artificially entered. These defects play a key role, their existence allowed to strengthen considerably “memristor” effect, having expanded the range of resistance of the device and having increased thereby, quantity of states in which there can be a memory cell.
“Our achievement is important, after all it allows to create cells of the memory capable to accept one of a large number of states and to process information in the way by what it is done by brain neurons” – doctor Hussain Neelie (Dr Hussein Nili), – “Tells the artificial defects entered by us into memristor material on the basis of parts of oxide compounds of other metals, allow to open the full potential of the memristor. Now the behavior of this electronic component also depends not only on current state, but also on its last states, i.e. the matrix of such elements in the work can consider the experience got earlier”.
All aforesaid is beyond concept of digital memory habitual to us which can store the data presented in the form of units and zero. On the basis of difficult networks of memristors of new type in the future it will be possible to create systems of artificial intelligence which, at the expense of the small sizes of cells of memory, it will be possible to place in the volume comparable to the volume of a brain of the person. Besides, doctor Hussain Neelie considers, in the future on the basis of similar memristors it will be possible to create devices on which it will be possible to copy in case of such need consciousness of the person completely.
